Adult Literacy Learning

The State of Literacy Project

Fox Valley Literacy launched the State of Literacy Project to better understand how individuals and organizations in our community use reading, writing, language, and technology to navigate life as it happens.

Through surveys and focus groups, we’re listening closely to individuals, families, and organizations to better understand what’s working and what’s getting in the way. The insights gathered will guide future programming, strengthen local partnerships, and help shape a more equitable approach to literacy support across the region.

We need all community voices to be heard for this project to be successful, so check it out and see how yours can be counted!

Join us in strengthening our community!

At Fox Valley Literacy, we are committed to providing free classes and tutoring for adult learners in essential areas: reading, writing, math, English language, civics & citizenship, digital literacy, and individual projects. We thrive solely on the support of volunteers and donors, enabling us to offer accessible education to everyone in the northeast Wisconsin counties of Outagamie, Waupaca, northern Calumet, and northern Winnebago.

We believe that improving literacy is the foundation for a stronger community. By empowering adults with the skills they need, we foster personal growth, civic engagement, and economic stability. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.

Here is what we offer adult learners:

English Classes:

Instruction in one-to-one and class settings to enhance language skills for everyday communication and professional opportunities.

General Education

Courses designed to help learners achieve their personal educational goals like strengthening reading or math for personal or professional reasons, or to gain essential knowledge and skills for their GED and HSED.

Civics & Citizenship:

Programs that prepare individuals for active participation in civic life and the naturalization process including help studying for the citizenship test and preparing for the citizenship interview.

HMong Family Literacy:

This unique program helps Hmong parents build English skills, and their children learn Hmong. Both learn in separate groups and gather to practice what they have learned through family activities.

Individual Projects:

Customized support for learners to pursue their unique educational interests and goals like taking the written portion of the driver’s test, entrance exams, computer skills, and more!

All our programs are free to participants, made possible solely through the generous contributions of volunteer tutors, operational volunteers, donors, and partners.
